Alain backs A1 GP biofuels switch

Alain Prost has lent his support to A1GP’s THINK Greener Racing initiative.

Alain is part of a French Government commission to analyse the benefits of biofuels. He was present in the A1GP paddock yesterday at Silverstone to watch his son Nicolas test for A1 Team France.

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport announced at the test that it will use a 30 per cent biofuel ethanol mix for its race fuel from this season, as part of a wider plan to improve the environmental footprint of the series.

‘I’m very pleased with this switch to biofuels,’ Alain said about A1GP’s plan. ‘For a long time I’ve wanted to see this kind of environmental involvement in motor racing. We need to follow what we have seen in a normal industry and a normal life. That applies especially to the big series and they should go in this direction. It is normally the objective of motor racing to experiment with technology and show the people that it works – not that one car is better than another one or another one. We need to prove that motor sport is not only a show and that we don’t have to the image of people who can pollute the air without thinking carefully about it.’
