Alain Prost tested DTM cars

As reported before, Alain had cancelled his appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed because he wanted to race in the French GT Championship at Val de Vienne. However, he cancelled that as well. Obviously it was a last minute decision for personal reasons. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional news on it so far. All I know is that neither Alain nor Jean-Pierre Jabouille were racing in Val de Vienne and had to be replaced by the Exagon Team.

Instead, Alain Prost was testing DTM cars in Oschersleben on Monday, June 27, 2005! DTM is the German Touring car Master series with famous drivers like Mika Häkkinen or Jean Alesi competing in it. At the next race at Norisring (July 16 to July 17, 2005) a "Race of the Legends" is planned. If everything works out as planned, former Formula 1-Champions will be driving timed laps on an Audi, Mercedes and Opel, the three manufacturers of DTM... There has been no official announcement naming all the drivers who will take part in it, but it's known, that Alain Prost, Keke Rosberg (who was already racing in DTM after his F1-career) and Emerson Fittipaldi have agreed to race at Norisring. Other drivers the organisators are talking to are Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Jody Scheckter, Nelson Piquet and Damon Hill.

Due to latest news, Alain Prost arrived at Oschersleben at about 11.00 o'clock on Monday after the race. After some short explanation of Martin Tomczyk and former DTM-Champion Laurent Aiello, Alain completed 39 timed laps: 12 laps in an Audi, 15 laps in the Mercedes and 12 laps in the Opel.

Alain's fastest lap was 1 minute 23 seconds, which he drove on Opel. He was only 2,5 seconds slower than the fastest lap in Sunday's race by Mattias Ekström.
