During the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Alain confirmed his drivers for next year. While Jarno Trulli has signed a contract for two years (1999/2000), Olivier Panis signed a contract for 1999 only. Alain explained that the reason for this was, that Olivier Panis has doubts if the car will be competitive. So, Olivier will decide in 1999, if he wants to leave Team Prost GP.

As I already wrote in the news of 05.05.1998 and 29.07.1998, Alain is still negotiating with John Barnard. Alain said he will announce in September, which people will join him.

I wrote in the news of 29.07.1998, that Alain would chose Heinz-Harald Frentzen as driver if one of the actual drivers would not be driving for Alain next year. One reason, why Frentzen will not drive for Alain next year were the sponsors, Alain said... Being asked, which drivers he would take straight away into his team, he mentioned Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve, Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher...

Some time ago, there was a rumour, that the French tyre-producer Michelin would return to F1 with Team Prost soon. In the meantime, Pierre Dupasquier from Michelin announced, that there will be no comeback to F1 in the next few years. Surely not before the year 2001. The tyre regulations are one of the reasons. The financial situation is another one...
